Big Picture Film Club / Cinnect hosted a panel at this year’s London Independent Film Festival discussing how filmmakers can utilise new technologies at each stage of the film process: from pre-production to distribution.

Goldfinch Announces 4th First Flights Short Film Fund – Supporting Female Filmmakers

First Flights has just announced their FOURTH round of their Short Film Fund.

This special Female Voices edition is focused on supporting female filmmakers and raising awareness of the underrepresentation and discrepancies in pay and positions between men and women in the film industry.

To be eligible for this round of funds either the writers, directors or producers of the film project must be persons who identify as female.

With a financial grant of $10,000 available, Goldfinch will also offer a development platform for the successful filmmaker, supporting the filmmaker and their short as a proof of concept for a feature film of up to a $1M budget through Goldfinch.

“Of the 250 highest-grossing films in 2020, 67% of films employ fewer than five women in the key positions of director, writer, executive producer, producer, editor or cinematographer. As such, we are compelled to address the gender imbalance in the film industry and proud to be making a small step towards supporting a new generation of female filmmakers, in the hope that other organisations will follow suit. There are incredible stories waiting to be told and new voices waiting to be heard – we’re excited to meet the next generation of filmmaking talent.”

BirdBox Film Club: Championing Womens’ Voices In Film

In association with Birdbox.film, the ‘Championing Womens’ Voices In Film’ event consists of an all-female panel being hosted by Urvisha from the Big Picture Film Club discussing key issues facing women in the film industry. The event will take place Wednesday 7th April, 7:30pm BST and aims to shine a spotlight on the women making films in modern Britain, talking about the challenges you have faced in succeeding (and even existing) within the industry. Also, the event will also explore how the change of culture in the last few years has affected the film industry and women’s roles within it, as well as looking at the consequences of COVID-19 for film-makers everywhere. And finally, maybe most importantly, what can we do as individuals and companies to create a more level playing field for people of all genders and backgrounds to enter and succeed in the creative industries.

The panelist include: Actor/Producer, Sadie Frost; Filmmaker & Actor, Jane Gull; Executive Producer & Financier, Kirsty Bell; Artist & Costume Designer, Trinity Tristan; Producer & Director, Victoria Thomas.

Oliver Murray Discusses His New Documentary About Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club

Oliver Murray is a writer/director, his latest documentary “Ronnie’s” tells the story behind the historic London Jazz club Ronnie Scott’s. The jazz club was founded in 1959 and has played host to a variety of legendary musicians such as Oscar Peterson, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Van Morrison, Chet Baker, Jimmy Hendrix and Dizzy Gillespie to name a few.

Ronnie’s will be available to UK viewers from Sunday 15th November on BBC4 and iPlayer. The film is available to US audiences when it screens as part of this year’s Doc NYC (virtual) Film Festival from 11th -19th November 2020.
